DERECHÖ-A derecho is a widespread, long-lived, straight-line wind hurricane that is associated with a fast-moving group of severe thunderstorms known as a mesoscale convective system and potentially rivaling hurricanic and tornadic forces. Derechos can cause hurricane-force winds, tornadoes, heavy rains, flash floods and extreme destruction. IT IS NOW ALSO A METAL BAND FROM MINNEAPOLIS!

MORE HISTORY! THIS IS WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS...PLEASE READ ON, TRUST ME, ITS INTERESTING...As you can see it sounds like a great concept for a metal band, here's how it came to be...In the cold, desolate, covid summer of 2020 us young whipper snappers decided to start a new band, based on the rhythm, speed, textures and creativity of so many that have come before us. We wanted to mix every style of metal we knew, put it into a ball and make the most creative thing we could...but we needed a name? We tossed around ideas, many ideas...but nothing stuck. One day, on a long road trip for work, it was a Monday, mere hours before band practice, Shawn got caught up in a storm for the ages, a hurricane like storm in Iowa (not where we would ever wanna be), a storm like none other the Midwest has ever seen...it caused numerous power outages across all of Iowa, buildings destroyed, farms demolished, many deaths. It was literally insane...and we where stuck in the middle! As we came out of the other side of the storm we started thinking...is there a more appropriate name for a metal band? Death, destruction, chaos, insanity...DERECHÖ.
